Additional agency programs serve adults and youth with psychiatric disabilities, parolees, at-risk youth and other underserved populations in both residential and recovery-oriented settings. Last year, Community Missions provided over 110,000 meals and 13,000 nights of care to neglected or abused children and homeless adults. “We have had great success in the Niagara Falls schools with the program, and there has been interest in expanding for some time. “We are so pleased to partner with the Kenan Center to offer ‘Girls Circle’ to the Lockport area,” said Elizabeth Freiburger, “Girls Circle” lead facilitator. A second grant from the Niagara Area Foundation has provided funding for this summer’s expansion to Lockport, and other program necessities.
Over the past five years, the program has served a wide variety of ages in the Niagara Falls City Schools and has been funded through a 21st Century Grant. The program is designed to foster self-esteem, help girls maintain authentic connection with peers and adult women in their community, counter trends of self-doubt, and allow for genuine self-expression through verbal sharing and creative activity. Sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the month of August.Ĭommunity Missions began offering “Girls Circle” in 2016, thanks to funding from the Niagara Area Foundation, a division of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. Community Missions has launched its “Girls Circle” at the Kenan Center, marking the girls empowerment program’s first foray into eastern Niagara County.
